We are pleased to announce that 26 community organisations across the country were successfully awarded Capacity Building grants through the Be Connected program in August.

The Capacity Building grant is an opportunity for members of the Be Connected Network to implement a train-the-trainer program to support and develop digital mentors in their community. Digital mentors support individuals and groups to improve their skills and confidence.

This round of $50,000 grants saw over $1 million dollars in funding awarded to community organisations, which will lead to the training of 1,840 digital mentors. Successful recipients included Community Centres SA, Central Coast Community College, Digital IQ and National Seniors Australia.

As part of the grant funding, Capacity Builders nominate a Lead Digital Mentor who will provide best practice digital mentoring advice and support to staff and volunteers in their organisation or networks using resources provided by Good Things Foundation.

Lead Digital Mentors also get access to special training and support by Good Things Foundation to help them to prepare for the role. Due to COVID-19 travel and gathering restrictions, training for Lead Digital Mentors will be held online.

The new Capacity Building grant holders are located across the country, including:

  • 9 in Victoria
  • 6 in New South Wales
  • 4 in Queensland
  • 3 in South Australia
  • 3 in Western Australia
  • 1 in the Northern Territory

The newly funded Capacity Builders will join an existing network of Capacity Builders who are already delivering digital mentor training projects around the country.

Capacity Builders are ambassadors for Good Things Foundation and the Be Connected Network. They work with Good Things Foundation to support the Be Connected program, helping us to strengthen the Network and support community organisations to meet the needs of older Australians seeking to improve their digital skills. Find out more about the Capacity Building grant, including a map of current Capacity Builders.
