We recently contributed two submissions to the 2021 Indigenous Digital Inclusion Plan consultation to improve digital inclusion for First Nations peoples.

Our first submission, ‘Closing the digital divide for First Nations communities’, highlights the need for a national digital inclusion strategy and education programs to be co-designed and led by First Nations peoples, along with support for the implementation of these strategies by First Nations leaders and continued research into closing the digital divide.

Our joint submission with Save the Children Australia, ‘Closing the digital divide for First
Nations families and children’, focuses on improving digital inclusion for First Nations families and children through a human rights-based, First Nations-led national strategy. All of our submissions also consider the need for affordable access to the internet for all First Nations people.

In making these submissions, we recognise that although Good Things Foundation Australia and Save the Children Australia have expertise in digital inclusion and delivering programs for children, we are not First Nations-led organisations. It is critical that First Nations communities, leaders and organisations have priority in being heard on the issue of closing the digital divide through the Indigenous Digital Inclusion Plan.
